Another reason being post-menopausal hormonal changes can cause the tissues of the vulva and the lining of the vagina to become thinner, drier, and less elastic. Don't be afraid of supplementary lubrication (even in foreplay) at any adult age.
Regardless of age, never be rough - unless she clearly requests it. Real life is not like some porn fantasies - I doubt there are many women who want to be choked, throated to puking, slapped on the face, called nasty names, spat in the face, urinated on or buggered without preparation and lube - which is the impression you might get from some porn.
