I had an old retired neighbor for a few years who had been a long haul trucker in the 50s and 60s, before sleepers were common on semi-trucks. Standard procedure in those days was to overnight at small motels along the route. Back then Hispanics hadn't taken over the maid staff, so the staff in these little places was always local girls, same as the waitresses at the corner diner. It seems that some of them were agreeable to making an extra 20 bucks here and there, so they'd scan the guest register in the morning and see a single man staying under a company name. A soft knock on the door, they'd get let in and provide some companionship, then off they'd go.
My neighbor said he got more 20 bucks, early morning suck-n-fucks than he can remember. It was evidently quite common. It's never happened to me and I've stayed lots of times by myself over the years, from nice places to seedy dumps. It was over 20 years later though, so evidently that dynamic had faded out.
