The Future?
Having traveled extensively in all of the United States, it's upsetting to see how much of our forests are being lost to over development, drought and fire. There are few roads you can travel anymore without encountering another person. The woods are crawling with hikers and hunters. Out west, we're losing acres of old growth every single day. I often think of what would happen if we took a Native American from before the pilgrims landed and stuck him in the middle of today's America. Does anyone remember the commercial from the 70s with the Indian looking at all the garbage on the highways and crying? The poor guy would be in absolute hysterics today. I'm not ancient, but in my lifetime alone there's been mind blowing changes, for the worse. I fear that one day in the future, you'll come to this thread and the scene below will be the only forests you'll see. I'd like to be optimistic, but there are more self centered assholes running around loose in the world than there used to be...or maybe they're just more open about their assholishness. Anyway, the planet is remarkable. It will exist and evolve, with or without us, but the human race can't sustain apathy. To be or not to be...that's still the question. Wank green, OCC.
