A description from a site for tickets for a recent performance (don't know if this picture is from that performance):
After creating several shows in Portugal, Mónica Calle’s work is now performed internationally. First performed in 2017, Ensaio para uma cartografia, a piece bringing together twelve actresses aged between twenty-two and fifty years old, is brimful of humanity. The performers are neither musicians nor dancers. Despite this, they attempt, collectively, to execute classical dance routines from Ravel’s Bolero or dare to play Beethoven’s seventh symphony using string instruments. The words of Beckett spring to mind: “Try again, fail again, fail better”. Twelve naked bodies, vulnerable and wonderful at the same time, go from the experience of being dominated by the ordeal ahead of them, to dominating it, giving rise to a powerful, intense allegory for life itself.
Would love to locate some other pictures and ideally video, but no luck so far.
