Default I

Located the big rig that had been described to me to the rear of the lot as discussed. Linda was now demanding answers, and I was at the point where I had to come clean with the act that would indemnify her of the debt. She was aghast, then angry. The temptation to cave and let her off the hook was immense, but I let it play out and watched her mull her options in her head.

In short order I saw her jaw steele, and she hissed at me "fine; lets get this over with". I was still not sure I hadn't gone too far this time as she exited the little Toyota and strode toward the Semi. "Travis" saw us coming and opened the door for us to climb up.

Travis was shall we say, "ethnic". Linda is not racist, but this twist seemed to alarm her even more. She kept a cool exterior, and there was some introductions in the cab of the truck. Linda was all of a sudden embarrassed that I had not told her we would be "meeting people", and she in sweats and slippers. The cab was dark, save for the glow of the instruments, so it was a ridiculous ignominy. Taking charge, Linda acknowledged "I guess clothes are not why we are here anyway, and moved through the curtain that separates the cab from the sleeper taking off her sweats as she did.

My heart almost pounded out of my chest; "she is going to do it!"
