Back in the summer of 1993 I took a friend out to Hippie Hollow one Saturday afternoon. He had never been there even though he grew up in Austin. We had planned on just walking around just so he could say he'd been there.

if you've never been there it's a bunch of large, flat rocks that go all the way to the water with trees behind the rocks. You really need good shoes to walk around there.

We stumbled into a clearing and I noticed what looked like a bunch of rose pedals on the ground and a group of people standing in a group. I just blurted "What the hell is this? A wedding". Somebody turned toward me and said "Yes, be quiet"!!!!

Sure enough there was a naked wedding taking place. Well, the bride had white stockings and heels. There was a woman performing the ceremony who was totally nude. The guests were all nude including a few minor children. This was before they incorporated the age limit.

We didn't think anyone would believe us but the Sunday Austin newspaper actually ran a story on the wedding.

That's back when Austin was truly "Weird". Now it's just the 11th largest city in the U.S. I miss the old Austin....
