Dude, you need a new PC. My computer is old, but anything after about 2015 can handle 4K. It's like a whole new world and worth every cent. $200 USD for a new monitor and maybe $100 for a multi-terabyte external HD. Otherwise why bother with files and just stick to streaming? Most streaming sites do 720p. Google up the difference between h264 and h265.
I have a black and white TV from like 1970 that isn't broken, but I don't use it because I enjoy watching films in color.
Think about this. Do you have an iPhone? 720p is like three thumbnails on an iPhone, or any touch device manufactured since about 2010.
