I can add that having been a photolab manager back in the 70s that we saw a LOT of nude and XXX rated stuff that came through our lab. It was an industry policy that anything deemed "obscene" would be culled from the finished roll of film, pics held out of the envelope, but negatives returned. We had a file cabinet in my office where those culled photos ended up, a matter of retaining them in the event there were any laws being broken by the photographer. We never had an investigation, and I can say that a number of those photos mysteriously managed to grow legs and walk away.
