The Eytomology is quite interesting. There’s a lot of nonsense suggesting its an acronym but the actual history is more in line with the link below I believe. My father being one of those that can recall the phrase Mon Caka CHAVy Dick Aye making its way to being just Chav in the late 70’s in Kent.
