Post Murphy's Law

Hello everybody.

First time writing one of these on this site. Any praise and/or critiques welcomed and appreciated.

INTRODUCTION

By any usual standard Lexi Fortuna Murphy was the luckiest girl in the world.

She had been born into a loving family of significant wealth. She was as healthy as the day was long, lacking even a peanut allergy or an aversion to freshly-cut grass. She had a head on her shoulders, earning a 4.0 in high school and a full scholarship to the college of her dreams, but also possessed stellar social skills. The girl was also lucky in a more conventional sense, finding twenties under couch cushions and valuables at yard sales, even winning $100 from a lottery ticket on one occasion. The most inarguable God-given gift the girl had ever received was her looks. Perfectly blonde hair, gorgeous emerald eyes, a smile white enough to outshine a full moon. While all this good fortune should have led her to a simple and satisfying life, Ms. Murphy did seem utterly cursed in one rather unusual regard.

Her friends called them "Lexi moments". There was the time she lost her bikini top on that waterslide, the time her shorts ripped at that concert, the time her skirt got stuck in that revolving door. The time her left boob slipped out while on the jumbotron at a minor league baseball game was a classic, as was the afternoon when her pants fell down twice in front of a crowded tour group. In short, it seemed that for every ounce of luck given to Lexi an ounce of integrity was taken out of the fabric of her clothing. It was a startling problem, but an issue Ms. Murphy blamed on her own carelessness rather than some cosmic trade-off or erotic universal vendetta.

So there Lexi stood, dressed in a bath towel in front of her wardrobe, eyes searching for an outfit she could trust for a long day of work and school, among other things.
