Alec,
I agree that most Americans are prudes when it comes to nudity. We usually don't grow up being naked in front of other people, sometimes even of the same sex. Some are taught your body is a temple and private and you shouldn't share it with others. There's also pressure on women to look a certain way, so they sometimes feel embarrassed to even wear a one piece bathing suit in public. Hopefully some day people will be more comfortable with their bodies and won't be as concerned about being seen naked. Growing up in America I was always envious of Europeans in that respect. I always assumed French girls didn't have a problem being topless in public and German girls wouldn't mind getting naked in public (in a non-sexual situations). I'm sure it varies by person, but I think Europeans care less about exposing themselves to others. I find it interesting, which is why most of what I post in this thread are stories about women in situations of being naked in front of others, especially when confronted with different cultural attitudes of nudity. They sometimes take on a "when in Rome" attitude and do things they would never do back in their home country.
