There was a Supreme Court decision in 1958 that held photos of pubic hair was not by itself obscene if it was in a publication that had scientific or cultural purpose. Nudist magazines had been writing about the psychological and physiological and social benefits of social nudism from the start, so while some magazines had published full frontal nudity without airbrushing before the decision, after the decision few airbrushed pubic hair out. Pictures were regularly recycled, particularly of popular nudists such as Diane Webber.
