It has been postulated that reason for this is that the candualist deeply identifies with his wife's body. This makes more sense of it to me.

The dual in candualism implies it's a joint activity. No one wants to see the male exhibitionist naked, so perhaps he uses his wife as a substitute - a vicarious pleasure to compensate for this disappointment.
