were arrested for indecent exposure after they exposed one breast in imitation of Virtus, the Roman goddess representing genius on the official seal of the commonwealth. They were protesting failure of the Virginia legislature to support the Equal Rights Amendment.
Surprisingly, one of the women was denied bail and will remain in jail for a month awaiting her trial. This is unheard of for a nonviolent crime.
