Pubic shaving/waxing seems to have been a pre-Islamic Arab custom as well as an Ancient Egyptian one.
Most Muslims regard it as mandatory or at least "highly recommended". According to Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith #5890
Allah's Messenger said, "To shave the pubic hair. to clip the nails and to cut the moustaches short, are characteristics of the Fitra" [state of religious purity].
which "should not be neglected far more than forty nights"
Today's fully covered up niquab-wearing women would presumably be completely bald beneath all that "modest covering".
Also: strange to think that the modern Western fashion of bald pubes could be regarded as being Sharia-compliant!
