Safety in numbers
Many years ago my wife and I were part of a nudist group that did hikes in the Bay Area. One Saturday my wife was busy, but I drove up to meet the group north of San Francisco. There were about a dozen of us, about half were women. We stripped in the parking lot and headed up the trail of a county park. Our leader said to let the women lead our group since people are less threatened by a naked woman. We encountered several other clothed hikers: both groups and solo hikers. One clothed guy said, "Naked hikers, cool!"
When we got to Bass Lake we all jumped in the water to cool off and some folks took photos. It was a great time; unfortunately I've never done it since.
