I'd rather not hand out my phone # either. Thankfully, there are a few programs where you only need an email. I use FBook messenger occasionally, but since their data- mining fiasco, I've been turned off to FBook.
Lately, I've been using the old standby Yahoo messenger. It's still around and works well for me.
The thing I don't understand is why Yahoo chat rooms faded away. I used to think they were awesome.
