Life's too short for that. Those fans love baseball. That's good enough for me. I'm a fan of the game. The Sox Yankees rivalry should be intense for the next decade...and that's great for baseball. I enjoy the good natured ribbing between Sox and Yankee fans. I don't take it seriously. I'm not a member of the Red Sox. I don't say "we" when referring to the team as if I'm somehow connected to their fortunes. So there's no "envy" here, or disrespect intended. Given the context of this thread, "Wankees" just seemed appropriate. I hope the Yankees do well this year. With the dismantling of the Orioles and Blue Jays, it seems like the pinstripers have got an excellent shot at second place.

I don't hate the Red Sox, but their fans can be a bit much. I was in Baltimore a few years ago when the Sox were in town. Some fans were about to start a fight with me because I had a Yankee hat on. I got out of it by saying that the city of Baltimore doesn't care that they were defending the Red Sox' honor. They only saw it as an assault.
I do appreciate the rivalry and I'm glad that Fenway wasn't torn down for a new one. It's a great ball park.
When the Yankees signed Alex Rodriguez, ESPN interviewed new Angels owner Artie Moreno at a spring training game. When he was asked if George Steinbrenner was driving up player salaries, he reponded that George Steinbrenner was a smart business man who invested in his team. The Yankees sell 4 million seats per year for a reason. When MLB instituted the payroll tax, all of the small market teams took the money and pocketed it instead of using the money for what it was supposed to be for - getting better players.
