Toplessness is also dead. Only at the dedicated and traditional FKK beaches will you see nudity, and even then many women are now clinging to their bikini bottoms anytime they get up from their blanket or towel. I had my first opportunity to visit the "famed" Englischer Garten in Munich a few years ago; 95% of the nudity was male. And much like here in the States, the average nudist age is well north of 50...
Obviously this is in response to cell phones and cheap spy cams. I suppose that most women just don't want their nude bodies out there on the internet for perpetuity.

We wouldn't quite say that toplessness is dead but it does seem to be in decline. On Spanish textile beaches in the 80's and 90's the majority were topless. Now it is very much a minority and, as you say, most are north of 50.
The younger ones, especially northern Europeans, are very much covered up. The one glimmer of hope is that there are still a few young Spanish girls who will abandon the bikini top, and very nice they look.
