Sandy hook was slightly rearranged but it is going strong. Have been there every summer since Sandy with no problem.
The issue with Fire Island for me is that coming from upstate NY I would have to go right through NYC and over several bridges at $15 per bridge to get to the LIE. Leaving at 7PM on a Friday night would take 4 to 5 hours.
Going to Sandy Hook I take 87 to GSP and I can be there in 3 hours with only the road tolls.

Good to know - though doubt could ever get the mrs. to go. She says she would be willing to go topless, and maybe more, but would have to be away some place, like the islands or Mexico. My luck, she would see someone she knows and the whole thing would stop dead in its tracks.
