Railroad tracks are photogenic. They give a nice sense of depth to the image. But it's still a bad idea and something that is being discouraged by the railroads. I've got a friend who works with railroad safety and people still die walking the tracks or taking pictures with some regularity. And it's incredibly traumatic for the engineer when it happens.

I have a cousin who is a train engineer and he says the same thing. When it takes more than a mile for his train to come to a complete stop when he is traveling at speed, there is not much he can do other than blow the whistle.
