In the fifties it was considered obscene to have a picture of a woman showing her pubic hair. (Truth!)
It was easier to airbrush the forbidden parts out of the picture if the woman was shaved, so many women who modeled nude who did not want to show an open pussy or "Obscene hair" would shave. Nudist women of the time did not shave (the hair was a sign of adulthood or maturity) except some women in Southern California nudist circles did shave, to show to the other nudists that away from the resorts they were figure models.
