Hyde Park is the biggest starting point. Last year it was relatively quiet up there because of the heavy rain that fell early on. Most years it's a massive scrum of gawpers and most of the female participants stay at least partially dressed there because to expose a bit of flesh is to bring a big crowd of iPhone warriors surging towards you.

This event and getting decent pics at it is all about luck really. You never know which feeder ride (seven this time) will contain the more interesting characters. Westminster Bridge always packed and difficult but you can also get iconic shots against a backdrop of famous landmarks and the volume of traffic means constant stops - and constant stops mean snapping opportunities. You can then follow the ride to Forum Magnum Square where there has been a rest stop in previous years.

On to Waterloo Bridge for what is typically the best part of the ride so far as getting pictures of the riders in motion in a relatively uncluttered environment. And it should then be possible to make it back down The Strand, The Mall and into Constitution Hill by the time the ride is heading back towards Wellington Arch. Certainly last year we made it back to the arch with a good bit of time to spare - but the various diversions and road closures for the Queen's street party slowed the returning riders, I think.

London WNBR is a very demanding and difficult event at which to get decent pictures. Ideally you need to be one of the riders to get the best shots, or even better to hitch a ride on a rickshaw etc. It's impossible to say where the best places to snap will be because there are so many variables. IMHO.
