Most body jewelry is titanium and won't set off a detector, and can also be worn during CAT Scans and such. Not sure if some of the heavily decorated ladies on this thread all have non conductive metal.
I have no trouble with mine either, nor my wife. And, I'm sure if passing through the airport and she was ever asked what she had, she would just show them.
