Funny you posted this when you did! I've carried a memory stick with me at work for years. It hangs on a string from my neck lanyard along with my ID badge. The same day you posted your story, I happened to notice that my memory stick was missing! I quickly remembered that the night before, as I leaned over to pick up my backpack outside the main entrance to work, my badge got caught on the bench my bag was resting on. My badge popped free but obviously my stick did not. As soon as I had a chance, I went back to the bench and looked around but it was nowhere in sight. Because of the nature of my job, it is practically impossible for the general public to be in the area, so I figured a co-worker had found it and probably kept it.
I figured that the work files on it were all old, general in nature and backed up on my laptop so I wasn't too worried about it until a co-worker (and team mate) told me that one of the maintenance crew had found it, gave it to him and that now Debbie, the receptionist, had my thumb drive. I couldn't figure out how they knew it was mine since I didn't think any of the files on it were personal.
Imagine my surprise when I got it back, looked through it and found that the only files linking the drive to me were in a folder I had forgotten all about - a folder containing 30 nude pics of my wife and one video clip of her giving me a BJ and 3 more of us having sex! I'm not sure about the maintenance worker, but I know that Debbie and Herbert (my team mate) have seen what was in that folder! Now Debbie smiles and makes veiled comments to me about being more careful with my digital personal information and Herbert has already asked me if he can borrow the thumb drive again some time!
