When you said former divas were going to be returning for their shot at Nikki, Layla and Aksana definitely weren't the first ones that came to mind.
Of course, I went from liking the story to LOVING the story upon the appearance of my Pale Princess Paige. And the fact that she fought off both of the Bellas and even ended up beating them was the icing on the cake (and Nikki's face apparently).

Thanks! Hope you don't mind, I edited down the quote a bit to respond. I love the Bella twins. For me, it's their looks. Their personalities in the ring and the trash talk are the kind that set them up for a fall, whetehr they're being heel or face at the time, so I love the possibilities there, too.
Layla and Aksana were two recently active Divas that are hot to me. Did you see Layla back when she was in the Diva search? Smoking. I never noticed Aksana when she was blonde; there aren't a lot of blondes in my stories usually.
I'm getting asked to include other divas from the past, but making characters takes the lion's share of the time in doing this, and my guidelines were that I liked everyone I included, and they had to be kind of recent.
Other Divas I considered putting in (AKA, made their characters) but didn't:
1) Cameron, because she's so hot, but it didn't seem like she'd be up for possibly winning a title
2) Sasha Banks, as an ally of Naomi. I like her, but maybe not enough.
3) Becky Lynch, as an ally of Paige. The same goes for her. Maybe she'll grown on me in time.
4) Jojo, as an announcer. I really intended to have the commentary guys off-camera talking about what was going on; there were lots of funny things they could say, but when I tried writing their dialogue, it just felt a little too "icky" for some reason, so I let the Divas' words and actions (and sometimes thoughts) add narrative voice where it was needed.
Of the ones I used, I think Paige, Naomi, and Nikki turned out best. Aksana looks better in the last image, where I realized her eyes had been a little too large and cartoony up to that point. The two I really should have worked on a bit longer, face-wise, were Brie and Stephanie, but that's sort of moot now.
I really love Paige, too. She's more my kind of girl, but rather skinny for my taste. Nikki isn't fat, and Paige isn't flat-chested, I just wanted to get out some of the ways female rivals sometimes insult each other in reality, combined with the way the wrestlers trash talk. And of course, they did a total divas episode about Brie wanting Nikki to lose weight, when really, I wish more people had Nikki's build.
The bad news for Paige is that I really love Paige, and that makes her a central character to the story. She has that belt now, but what will she have to do to keep it? The Bella battle may be won, but is the WAR/RAW over?
Also, thanks to everyone who was thanked me for this. I apologize for my own tastes and appetites being the guide, but it sort of has to be that way when I have limited time and I'm doing it for free--I make what I'd like to see.
