Many years ago, just after I moved in with my girlfriend, I used to give a lift home to a girl at the same evening class. We would often stop by at a pub on the way for a pint and a chat. One evening, when we got back to outside her place she asked me in for a coffee. I went in and we talked some more, then she declared that she needed to get ready for bed. I took that as my cue that I'd been there long enough and it was time to leave. As I was driving home I thought to myself, "Stupid boy" and wondered if she'd wanted me to stay. What if I'd said, "OK, can I stay and watch?" or similar. Maybe that wasn't what she wanted? Should I go back? Then I thought about my"new" girlfriend and decided against it. So I went home, went to bed and curled up around my nice warm, sleeping girlfriend. The next week at evening class it was very obvious that having me stay WAS what she'd got in mind...frosty or what!!! A few weeks later the gossip at evening class was that she'd hitched up with another bloke in the class, a married man. And the girlfriend? She became wife and the best friend I ever had, even 40 years later.
