When I was in high school, I worked at a fast food/video arcade joint. One of my co-workers was about a year older than me and just starting college in town. She was a cute little redhead with freckles and we flirted a little bit. But she also had a boyfriend, so I put self-imposed limits since the last thing skinny little geeky me needed was some older guy coming in and kicking my ass. Didn't stop her, though. She even mentioned she'd be happy to have sex with me, but she would like dinner and a movie first, just so it'd be a date.
While I was contemplating for several weeks whether the asskicking would be worth losing my virginity, she tells everyone she's pregnant. Shortly thereafter, said boyfriend/father-of-child dumps her. Suddenly the flirting cranks up to 11. She invites me over to her place one rainy day and we talk and flirt and play silly games. Finally she's on top of me in her underwear and my brain makes a decision: GET OUT! SHE WANTS YOU TO BE THE KID'S DAD! I give it a couple minutes to see if this is going somewhere, but it looks like she's expecting me to make the move. I mutter something about the time and, excuse myself, and go home.
Shortly thereafter, she and one of our other co-workers become 'an item'. Given that he was even less than me to look at, my original hunch, that she was looking for someone for the kid to call 'Daddy' seemed on the mark. The fast food arcade closed up just after I graduated high school, but before she had the baby and I never saw her again. Still don't know what happened to her, but I do know that no 17 year-old should have that level of obligation.
