But then I didn't attempt to snap the body painting (despite having an invitation to enter that area) and only photographed what might broadly be considered the event taking place. You can tell at once if someone isn't happy being snapped. A few idiots push it. People getting dressed/undressed, painted, sharing a quiet moment with others, queuing for an ice cream, relaxing on the beach at the end of the ride...would consider these to be off limits, with the odd exception. My rule is that I would never take a picture of someone I wouldn't be happy to show them.

I avoided the beach this year, I do find fully clothed men following naked people around on a Naturist not right. Last year I did go on the beach and stripped off but didn't take photos.
