Having worked my way right through this thread, it appears some of the ladies are smiling or grinning for the camera, others look definitely embarrassed.
I was reading about punishments in former times. If someone male or female was sentenced to stand in the pillory for 24 hours, they knew what was coming.
1. They would be standing for all that time which put a stress leading to severe pain in the legs and back.
2. Passers by would throw rotten veg, sticks and stones etc. This would cause physical pain or worse. Imagine being struck in the balls by a viciously thrown brick or in the eye with a sharp stone.
3. Whilst stood there, male or female, probably during the night, one or more people would come round behind you, remove some clothing and **** you. The authorities knew when this went on, but permitted it as part of te punishment! That's something film scriptwriters tend to ignore.
