Anyway, I about had her convinced to at least go topless but she was a bit unsure about being topless around people that knew her. .............................................I think if we had been alone or with just the one couple, my wife would have done it. The wife & I visited St. Martin quite a few times, (seven?) usually stayed in the Cupecoy area. Only once did we stay right on Orient Beach at Esmeralda, a real nice place, but with the nude policy always in flux, and topless being the norm. Haven't been back to St. Martin in quite some time however.
Regarding getting the wife topless, try a less used beach. Quite a few times we packed a lunch with cheese, bread & wine (don't forget the corkscrew! LOL!) And drove to Baie Longue (Long Bay). It is a deserted, beautiful beach a mile long near LaSammana resort, just beyond Cupecoy, half way between airport & Marigot. Sometimes access to the beach at Baie Longue is not easy to find. There are some private homes off the beach, and although never saw people around those big homes, I'm guessing they'd prefer that access is limited to keep the crowds away. And at the tiny beach access points they did have small "no nudity" signs, but in St. Martin, they referring to bottoms.
That said, we had some great afternoons at that beach. We've sunned there naked, but put on bottoms to splash in the surf & walk around. And we did walk the length of the beach a few times, a mile or so, with the wife topless and comfortable leaving her top behind. On those walks, seldom encountering anyone, certainly no one who seemed to care, and usually saw another topless woman or two along the way as well.
I've heard Happy Bay mentioned as a small interesting beach, never been there. Baie Rouge also not far away is fairly well used, but easy to find a quiet spot away from everyone. Besides, at a quiet beach where others are topless, not likely the wife would attract any attention whatsoever and be comfortable slipping the top off.
Bottom line, since topless is the total norm on the French side, there must be a ton of tiny seldom used beaches to explore. .
