Which threads are you missing out on? There may be something else going on. We just ran a test and the time from post to notification was one minute.
Some other things to check would be your ignore list (under user control panel) ,as well as checking the subscribed threads list. The e-mail notification has options for instant, daily, and weekly. Make sure the selection is correct for each thread.
