As a general rule the girls in the shop Windows in Amsterdam don't like to be photographed. I remember the good old days when as you entered the Oudzide there was a traffic sign which read, "Beyond this point the police no longer guarantee your safety." I was one of the very first customers of the Bulldog when it opened.
All that has changed. The town is dead after midnight in winter, there's a continual police patrol, a lot of the famous shop windows are boarded up, and the only ordinary shops with lights on are closed with a security guard sleeping in the middle of the floor. Good old days.
