Home Alone
This is a story which is based on a Home Alone theme (seeing as its nearly Christmas) with the robbers being replaced with a reluctant baby-sitter. Because its Home Alone based story most of the events aren't meant to be believable and are instead more comical so don't get hung up on the "no way could that happen" events.
Home Alone
Part 1
Skyler cursed to herself as she rang the doorbell to the McCallisters house.
“Why am I baby-sitting this little brat” she scorned under her breath.
But she knew perfectly why. It was a few weeks before Christmas and she needed the money. She recently lost her job as a waitress at the local coffee shop for abusing the customers which was completely unfair. So what if she would comment on the appearance of some of the women customers. She was only trying to help them not look so ugly. They should’ve thanked her rather than complain to her supervisor! Because of that she was forced to find whatever work she could in the run up to Christmas – even looking after some spoiled brat.
“Come on!” she cursed as she rang the doorbell again.
She just wanted to get this night over with. She wouldn’t normally have taken this job as she can’t stand to be around children but this job was ridiculously paid. $40 an hour! Working a few hours here would get her enough money to not work again until after Christmas. She guessed that this rich family had probably forgotten the value of money and would throw it around without a thought. Better for her! Just then the door flew open and standing before her was a very flustered looking man and woman.
“Come in, come in, come in” the wife said.
Skyler edged into the house, taken aback by the abruptness of the parents. They were rapidly throwing on shoes, coats, gloves and scarves like they were late for the most important event of their lives.
“Help yourself to any food in the fridge. Emergency numbers are on the fridge. Make yourself at home. Kevin is upstairs. And help yourself to any food – oh I already said that” said Mr. McCallister as he tied the laces on his boots.
“ How…..how long will you need me to babysit?” Skyler said.
“We’ll be as quick as we can” said Mrs. McCallister. When she said this, Skyler was sure that the father stifled a laugh. She was starting to feel a bit nervous.
“I mean, we should be no more than 3-4 hours” the mother said, as she and her husband finished getting ready and opened the door. Skyler couldn’t help but think that there was a look of fear in both their eyes. Like they couldn’t wait to get out of the house.
“But……..” was all that Skyler could manage as the parents shot through the door and slammed it closed.
“What an eccentric family” she said to herself.
Skyler then tried to settle herself. She took a deep breath and took in her surroundings. The house was massive, no doubt the parents were earning six figure salaries. There was a big staircase at the entrance and a corridor to the left leading to the kitchen. Rooms were directly to the left and right of her. Skyler walked over to a mirror that was close to the entrance and examined her appearance. She was wearing a long red woolen coat with matching red hat. Underneath she had a black cashmere jumper, skinny dark blue jeans with a thin golden belt and black boots that came up to just below her knees. She thought to herself that she belonged in Paris rather than the crappy small town she was living in. But she will get there one day.
She snapped herself away from her vanity show. She had a plan to deal with Kevin. She was going to put him to bed as soon as she could then sit on the couch and speak to her friends all night on the phone. It will be the easiest money she’s ever earned.
“Kevin!” she shouted up the stairs. “Keeevin, I’m Skyler, your baaaby-sitter. It’s time to go to beeed!” she repeated as she started to walk towards the stairs.
There was no answer, the brat must be hiding somewhere upstairs. As she put her foot on the first step she paused. The silence was broken by a whirring sound. It was very faint to begin with but was starting to get louder.
“What the hell is that” Skyler said to herself.
Just then, a remote-controlled plane appeared from the upstairs corridor. It was flying a few feet off the ground. As it approached the top of the stars, it turned and starting flying down the stair well and towards Skyler. Skyler didn’t have time to react as the plane flew directly towards her. She threw her hands up to protect her face but she lost her balance and fell backwards.
She hit the ground on her back with such impact that her hat flew off. Still shocked she tried to catch her breath whilst on her back looking up at the ceiling. As she was doing this, she noticed something directly above her. She hadn’t noticed it before. It almost looked like a ball or balloon. She was a little bit dizzy from the fall but when she squinted her eyes it was, sure enough, a balloon.
“Why is there a balloon hanging from the ceiling?” she asked herself.
She found out moments later when the same plane that attacked her on the stairs flew over the balloon, cutting the line that was holding it. She realized too late that the balloon was filled with something as it fell and hit her square on the face, bursting on impact.
“Ugh!” she screamed as the icy cold water drenched her face and hair. She scrambled to her feet, furious, but she again lost her footing on the wet floor and slipped over, banging her head on the floor. This time she felt really groggy from the impact. She was able to slowly roll onto her side and look up in time to see a boy coming down the stairs.
“Kevin…..” she managed “Kevin you come here and…..”
“Come and get me, loser” he said to her. And with that, he ran passed her and round the corner, opened the door to the basement and ran downstairs. Again, Skyler was speechless. She wasn’t expecting any of this, let alone a troublesome kid. But confusion turned to anger and she carefully got to her feet. How dare he make fun of her? She was the most beautiful, most popular and most intelligent girl at high school. She will not be the joke of some spoiled kid.
“KEVIN, you get back here right this instant!” she screamed as she ran towards the basement door. She opened it and ran down the stairs. The basement was ordinary, just a lot of boxes and some old junk and machines. When she got to the bottom she saw Kevin leaving by the outside door. He had a set of keys and was trying to lock it. Skyler ran towards the door and grabbed the handle but it was too late, he had locked it.
