This morning, I met with the young lady and the sheriff for breakfast. Larry and I presented them with a check and told them where and when to pick up the other ones. A receipt would be mailed back to us. She cried quietly and Beaufort pounded our backs like we had just scored the winning touchdown at a high school game.
That is when she told us how her father was not a gentle man, and if this would help just one kid, we should be proud.
I told her that if I survive telling the wife what I had done without consulting her first, I'll be just as proud. They were my guns, but what is mine is ours, and I felt like I should have spoken to her about it.
