I think the original intention
was to make it a sci-fi and have their gaming devices malfunction in unusual and embarrassing ways. In the "Zoe" thread, for example, the Rez Trance Vibrator (an actual gaming peripheral) is cursed and throws its user into embarrassing situations. Although we've been throwing in a few videogame references it's pretty much become a standard ENF story but with a geeky central character.
Not that I'm trying to disparage it at all; I think what me and Phantom are doing is great, and you're more than welcome to join in
