We heard from the proprietor of the "Village Place" - (a new-ish restaurant, opened last year, opposite the post office, good food, reasonable prices) that from next year, the gate will be in operation all year round! This is for security reasons, apparently winter burglaries of unoccupied properties have increased, with crooks bringing a van in, breaking into properties, and emptying them out! A manned gate would counteract that. But it will make life more difficult for those of us who live locally and are year-round visitors.
