Sometimes statistics lie.
I would tend to believe the view counts more than the thanks count anyway. Both can become skewed though. I've noticed sometimes that even after I've downloaded a set of pics, the view count doesn't change. It might be the difference between clicking the pic itself or right clicking and opening it in a new tab or window. I, myself use the thanks button like a bookmark to find my place in a thread.
The take away from all this is that your efforts ARE appreciated! Even if there haven't been other contributors. After all, it's hard to compete with a master!
