Hey, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but merely correcting the fact that the primary colors are actually Red, Yellow, and Blue. Green is a secondary color (yellow and blue). However, RGB is how pixels are definied (8 bits for red, 8 for green, and 8 for blue -- in a 24 bit image).

Your assessment of black reflecting light is correct. Photoshop is capable of processing images in a way which will allow us to see previously hidden details much more clearly. It's all math. Once the image is digital, you can isolate a region, or range of values and expand on their differences. This allows you to better distinguish contrasting areas. Of course, this is perfectly suited to a clean digital picture of a girl in a solid colored stretchy thin material bikini top!
