Theres many ways to transfer a video from a cam to a PC.
You can use USB leads BUT for best quality, a firewire is recomended. Then all you do is use the capture feature on most video editing programs. Windows movie maker will do the trick, but i have not used that, and don't know a freat deal about it.
When ever i transfer my own clip's, i use Ulead Video Studio and capture the videos in uncompressed avi format.
Once you have them saved on your PC, you can then edit them and compress them down in size with media codec's.
If you do a search on google for capturing tips, and sure you will find many tutorials.
