Yes, the idea behind a cropping thread is to improve pics, especially ones that already have a lot going for them. Sometimes a guy will shoot a great, one of a kind pic (like the one below) Often you just get lucky. Action shots are always the luck of the draw. But when that happens, it is really a shame to not have it cropped well. The pic below wasn't bad, but I though it needed to come in on the left especially. You always want to crop so that the eye cascades or funnels in towards the center of interest or the focal point, in this case the girl's face and torso. I cropped the tree on the left to the width of the girls body (her waist vs the tree in the top left corner). That made that tree repeat her shape from the waist down. I also cropped a little off of the top, right and bottom, but not too much.
