For France : At your initiation, you have to set up limits, and people know your limits. And if they try to force them, you usually have "godparents" who will watch over you and make sure your limits are respected.
Because, in France, hazing is illegal. Dunno for other countries.
Btw, there are a lot of student events in France and no photos came out ?
