Some back country toilets used to be just filled in and re-dug in another spot. There are a variety of composting toilets now. My understanding is that some dry the feces to the point where it no longer is a disease risk. Then it can be easily dug out-then packed out and perhaps even used as fertilizer. Mt. Rainier flies it out of Camp Muir (10,000' elevation in barrels on helicopters.) If you are truly interested in back country toilets you can Google them for more information. I'm more interested in pictures of naked women- and I like this one a lot.
