FYI - women have not been routinely strip-searched on admission to UK prisons since 2008. Women prisoners are only strip-searched if the guards have reasonable cause to believe the prisoner is smuggling contraband.

This is because many women prisoners are themselves, or have been in the past, victims of abuse and/or violation. A strip search is (correctly in my view) an unnecessary further violation which does not help with their rehabilitation into society.

The search is conducted privately with two same-sex guards in attendance. The prisoner removes the top half of clothing first and is then allowed to dress before removing the bottom half. The prisoner is never fully naked before the guards.
The guards are also not allowed to make any physical contact with the prisoner at any time.
The search is not recorded in any way.
