Welcome to the forums mroralfreak.

If you are running Windows XP, you could use Windows Movie Maker to edit, split or compress the videos. Windows Movie Maker comes free bundled with XP.

There are lots of other options. It would just depend on what kind of file (ie. What is the extension?) and what kind of computer you are using.
