Fremont Favorites: Minimal Body Paint
10 Attachment(s)
I've noticed that the annual Fremont thread is beginning to wind down, so I thought I might do something to help rejuvenate the topic. I have many favorite photos taken at Fremont over the years, but the best are those where the participants wear minimal body paint. Better, no body paint. And, my favorite parade participant so far was the skater who joined the parade in 2008 wearing only her skates. I've collected many photos from various photographers of this landmark event and I am sharing them with you here. My hope is this will encourage others of you to also share your favorite Fremont partcipants that feature minimal body paint.

minimally painted riders in 2010 didn't seem to be quite as prevalent as in previous years. No one seemed to be totally unpainted. Here are some of the 2010 riders wearing the least amount of paint. Most of these are fully nude.

no collection of minimally painted Fremont riders is complete without this beauty from 2007, probably the all around most photogenic rider I have photographed. Klondike

Believe me, I hope my concern here turns out to be as overblown as this year's fear of the police crackdown at Gasworks Park (and yes, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa, it was I who introduced that doubt, though in my defense I was only echoing SPD and official Fremont Fair warnings), but I'm afraid this thread's best moments will be retrospective, since there seems to be a growing trend, even among the riders themselves, to frown upon those who are less than fully painted. There still remains, thank heaven, a double standard, whereby men undecorated are far more likely than their female counterparts to be ostracized, but will we ever see the return of examples as sterling as these, from the halcyon early days? I wonder...

Klondike, Thanks. You are the man when it comes to Fremont photos. I also agree with crispus in that it isn't what it used to be only a couple of years ago. All we can do, I guess, is enjoy the past ... such as this set of photos from another highlight of the 2008 event. Enjoy!
