Nudity Ban At Bay To Breakers

People dressed in oversized costumes must run at the back of the pack, walkers must stay to the right while runners stay to the left, and no in-line skates, bicycles or skateboards are allowed. Nudity is not allowed, though police said they aren't planning to issue citations for indecent exposure.

There goes the "Bay To Breakers 2009" thread. :mad:

I dont believe nudity was ever legal, should be ok. I'll put a camera in my backpack just in case!:rolleyes:

It wasn't legal but I don't remember them ever trying to ban it before. They kind of looked the other way when it came to the nudity. Hopefully some chicks will still show some skin but with a "ban" there could be a lot less....

Elizabeth Archer, a 27-year-old Seattle resident, had planned to visit the city for a week in May to help her friends build a float and run the race in a toga. She's seen her friends' pictures for years and has always wanted to participate, but she's canceling her trip.

Remember when this country used to be fun?

Not really. When was that?

It sounds a little like they are more concerned with drunkedness and people peeing on front lawns than the nudity. The city was getting severe pressure from homeowners along the parade route regarding the former. That said, maybe they will go easy on the nudes. After all, it probably does bring a fair amount of money into the district.

But this still sucks. :( I mean, I hope San Francisco's reputation as a trend setting city stops here. Heaven forbid their actions should have an effect on officials overseeing the Fremont Parade in Seattle. And we have a dem in the white house now, too. Sheesh - I can't see pressure from the national level. So really, other than the homeowners, where is it coming from? Born again prudes tired of kinky San Francisco?

The above referenced article does seem to offer some glimer of hope.

"But fans of the race weren't buying the claim that Bay to Breakers will retain any of its heart or flair. At least one blog, a Web site and four Facebook groups were formed Wednesday to protest the changes. One Facebook group called "SAVE the BAY to BREAKERS!!!!!!!" had close to 400 members by Wednesday evening."

Nudity has been officially disallowed at B2B for some time (certainly since ING took over) - the issue is just that nobody enforces it. Hell, there were even "Nudity is illegal" signs at Folsom in 2008, for all the good they did. The Exotic Erotic Ball also forbids nudity, though they always note that "does anybody listen? no."

The big change here seems to be disallowed floats and carts, which were, it must be said, little more than beer kegs with a little papier-mache attached. Cutting down on public drunkenness might not be a bad thing. I doubt it will seriously impact the Bare to Breakers folks.
