carnival from where?

I'm trying to do a little sleuthing here. Rio Carnival occurs at night, so these pics below can't be from there. I think they are from San Francisco, and appear to be from a sort of copy cat event. These were posted at photofile (user elcoyote if you want to see the pics) and titled with the Russian term for carnival.

If you wear a tapisexo, but then paint over it while you're painting the rest of the body, you can look pretty naked overall..:)

I'd be interested to know more about this event..

thanks,

Klondike

Klondike: The buildings are quite consistent with SF, which has its own version of Carnival (see http://www.carnavalsf.com/index.php ), most recently held last May. They spell it differently, but you'll get a lot of hits searching for " 'san francisco' carnival." It's not exactly a copycat of Brazilian versions, since there's a long tradition of Lent festivals in (especially Catholic) Christian practice: the Latin "carne" being "meat" and "vale" being "farewell." Mardi Gras and the subsequent Fat Tuesday celebrations are another example. None of these is as raunchy as Brazil's, but as your photographs and Pedro's of the Notting Hill event in London show, there's a bit starting to creep in scattered among the more family-friendly fare.

So, Klondike, now your turn to explain if possible: these 2 came up on Flickr, are from Portland, but apparently not the daytime WNBR; I read on somebody's blog they wanted to institute monthly naked rides there. Any word from Stumptown?

That looks like naked Jenn - which would mean the pics are from Ashland, OR. It wouldn't surprise me to learn she wants to institute monthly rides there. Too bad they're in Ashland, not Portland. :)

Her full name is Jennifer Moss. Who else will ride with her - that is the question!!

Well, after googling the name and seeing a picture, it's definitely Jennifer Moss, but the pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/abrahar...ted/2008/09/04 both claim repeatedly to have been from Portland: maybe she's re-relocated to your more-than-just-topfreedom-friendly locale? Is it just me, or does she seem to have subsituted "petals only" for the full pasties we've seen elsewhere?

I'm stumped, but maybe it is stumptown :) Its hard to tell.

She ended up being permitted to join the July 4th parade in Ashland, so I don't see a motive for her to move.

Otherwise, I'm googling up nothing, so I'll wait and see what anyone else knows. I'd go see her here in Portland - once maybe :) I mean, I'm easily bored and if anyone is at risk of overexposure, it is her :)

Klondike: http://community.livejournal.com/pdx_spokes/56000.html is an example of the blog entry I meant, referring to "the sepember edition of the portland naked bike ride."

Good show. I wonder how often she is going to do this (no, you don't see this EVERY day in Portland, not even every month).

I think Jenn is a true exhibitionist. Apparently, she can't resist the allure of tapping into a bigger market. Portland, that is, as opposed to little 'ol Ashland. She'll get a lot more attention here, and since attention is what she craves, perhaps she'll be making regular trips....?

I read your posts in the wrong order.

As far as this goes - yeah, the "Portland naked bike ride" isn't affiliated with WNBR it doesn't look like. Maybe its Jenn's invention. And did anyone besides her ride?

It appears there was a naked bike ride in Portland on June 23rd too, approximately 1-2 weeks after the biggy. I didn't know about that one either.

This needs more investigating - regular naked bike rides right here in Portland?
