Need help with AVI

I have a DIVX player but no matter what I do when I try to download an AVI format clip my Windows media player takes over then crashes. Does anyone know how I can bypass windows media and use my DIVX player? Window media seems to want to run the show.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

i'll try to answer but sorry i'm french so my english isn't that good . You have to right-clic the file with your mouse . Choose open with , it will open a new window where you have to choose the program wich you want to use to open the file . choose divx player and there will be a box always open with , choose it and in theory it will be ok .
Hope to be helpful

I've got Windows Media Player, but mine doesn't do that ! I also have RealPlayer and QuickTime . But most of the time if WMP pops up and can't play it. Most of the time it's a file for RealPlayer with DivX Codes . But once I've downloaded the video , I can go into my files and right click on it . And where it says "Open With" I can choose the player, I want to play the video in. It sounds like you are having Default player problems . Have you gone into Control , Systems yet?

i had same problem and fixed it

first go into win media player prefences make sure the avi file format box is UNCHECKED.then find a divx clip you downloaded before and right click it,then open with, choose program, pick the divx player and make sure you check the always open this type of file with this player hit apply and hopefully next time when you click a avi file it will download then open in divx player like it does for me.im pretty sure thats how i corrected my problem.
