PLEASE NOTE: Megaupload is not allowed here
Several people over the past couple weeks have tried posting links to videos they've uploaded at Megaupload. We don't allow Megaupload here for two very good reasons, namely that there are too many ads and pop-ups, and, more importantly, a way to make money with uploads. We don't want to contribute to that. If you want to share videos that are larger than 30 MB or you don't have a One Click Pass, please upload it to Rapidshare, Sendspace or any other upload site you want, as long as it's not Megaupload.

Fango is there any particular reason why this rule can't be added to "Forum Rules & Posting Etiquette "
When posters want to check what they can and can't do, that would be the first place they'd go to. |

And yes the pop-ups are anoying. But it is still a free service. Closing one pop-up (Which takes about 5 sec) is worth it to download 100megs+ from them. I think anyway. But hey, your the admin |
Sendspace is the same exact thing as Megaupload, in terms of size and free-ness, and it doesn't have too many ads or a pay-for-download deal. Use Sendspace. Or anything other than Megaupload, if you don't like Rapidshare. There are plenty of these types of sites out there, if you only take a minute to look around and find a good one.

I disagree
Fango,
I disagree...information as an industry is inescapable; how Rapidshare widens their margins verse how MegaUpload widens theirs is splitting hairs. Allow me to explain, Rapidshare gets you on the way out, i.e. they get you on the download and their hook is that the upload is free up to 100megs. On the other hand MegaUpload gets you on the way in, on the upload but doesn't rake you as hard on the way out, i.e. it is easier to download more from MegaUpload without paying. Both sites draw is there "free" status but both are far from that. 100megs is nothing to do cartwheels over and neither is more free downloads per hour. Rapidshare makes you go through multiple gates to get to your free download and so does MegaUpload, the only difference is Rapidshare's gates are not pop-ups but posted adds, less annoying yes, but the same devil in a different dress non-the-less. The bottom line is this; bandwidth costs money, servers and maintaining those servers costs money and adds, in whatever form, pay for those expenses. I prefer MegaUpload to Rapidshare for the simple reason that MegaUpload's growing popularity should keep Rapidshare in check and eventual cause a mutual drop in pricing for survival as the need increases. |
Megaupload is not allowed here. The issue here, really, is not the pop-up so much as the pay-per-download program. It's the same reason we don't allow Imagecash links either. Use something else. I've suggested Sendspace over and over and people seem to be ignoring that suggestion. If you don't want to use Rapidshare, don't use Rapidshare. Nobody is forcing you to use Rapidshare (or Sendspace, for that matter). Just don't use Megaupload. End of story.
